For the band that we formed for the second gig we named ourselves Polythene Princess with it consisting of Aine, Chris, David, Orson, Sarah and I, unfortunately however towards the coming day of the gig Aine had to drop out and was unable to perform. This gig was performed in the college theatre again like the first one was. Our first step to preparing for the gig as a band was to make an action plan that is just below this text.
Polythene Princess Action Plan:
| Week | Date WeekBeginning | Activity / What you are intending to do – including independent study | Resources / What you will need to do it – including access to workshops |
| 1 | 14/1 | Jam together to establish our style, and discuss ideas | Music studios |
| 2 | 21/1 | Research similar bands for inspiration, open SoundCloud/YouTube accounts and social media pages, and jam together to gain ideas for songs | Music studios, the internet |
| 3 | 28/1 | Write two songs using the ideas we’ve come up with so far, post ‘teasers’ of them to social media | Music studios, social media |
| 4 | 4/2 | Write two more songs, and rehearse the others. Figure out how we’re going to turn each into a ‘performance’ | Music studios |
| 5 | 11/2 | Continue writing and rehearsing. Film some demos and post on social media. Design lighting and effects, and finish tech spec | Music studios, some sort of camera, knowledge of venue |
| 6 | 18/2 | Half term – Come into college for two days to rehearse and refine. If there’s time, record songs and post to SoundCloud/YouTube etc. Make sure we have all props/clothing necessary | Music studios, Recording equipment, |
| 7 | 25/2 | Week of Gig – we should have perfected our songs by now, so focus on making a great performance! | Music studios, Venue for tech |
We followed the whole plan with some faults for example some days I wasn’t able to attend as I was ill for a little while but recovered before the gig.
During the practise for the gig I was asked by Aaron if I could play the two songs his band is doing as one of his band members Henry couldn’t make it, I was asked to do this a while back so it was fine as I had learned the songs in advance and knew them anyway, when I was asked to it was perfectly okay as I had learned them but wasn’t too confident on playing Everytime by Boy Pablo, I performed it anyway though a long with Sunflower by Rex Orange County.
The songs that we did were two covers of Always you by Los Shakers and Teenage Kicks by The Undertones, the other two songs were originals, one that Sarah wrote which was a jazzy style and the other a surf in which Chris and I changed instruments so I was on bass and him on guitar so that he can do the solo’s that I can’t. The written ones were relatively simple but still sounded very good.
