FMP – Task 6: Evaluation

Due to me not being able to attend the Concorde 2 gig I will be evaluating a gig that I did on Thursday the 6th of June.

When playing live I sometimes feel a bit nervous because I am not 100% confident in my playing abilities so I will occasionally mess up, we played a set list consisting of Gap Year 2008, Sunflower, Dark Red, Nightmares, Remember When, Freaking Out the Neighborhood, Best Mate and one more original we made. The originals that we performed were met with good reception in my opinion despite me having to restart the first one Best Mate due to me forgetting the chords for a brief moment. The gig overall went well I reckon, we had a good tone from my point but that might have been because I was next to the amplifier, I however had forgotten to bring my flange pedal because my brother had borrowed it without asking which I think ruined the tone that I could have achieved during the gig.

I am happy about the originals we performed as I had put them together on the spot while we were in a live room doing a practise before an earlier gig that we did in Bar 42 still. The first song Best Mate was fairly simple to make, I had used some chords similar to Rex Orange County and also used a chromatic rise and fall, the chords stay the same for the whole song and in a breakdown part I just play the root notes of the chords. For the second original it was a lot more simple, I was messing about again in a live room and was playing random chords together until it started to sound good so I decided to work more on it and created a bridge which is in 3/4 compared to the song being in 4/4 normally, there is also a breakdown where it is just the bass and then guitar comes in too playing power chords of the original ones but also palm muted across the bridge of the guitar, there is then another 3/4 part which goes into a key change where the chords are moved up a whole step.
